Mia teaches at the Leroy Neiman Arts Center in Harlem

by Mia Roman in Art By Mia NewZ

Art By Mia will be teaching at the Leroy Neiman Arts Center in Harlem on February 23, 2013.

Children will explore hand beaded jewelry and crafts made by the women of the Umoja Uaso Women’s Group in northern Kenya, Africa. They will learn about the rich history, tradition, culture, and color significance of the art while handling and wearing hand crafted one of a kind pieces from Africa. Umoja means “Unity” in the Swahili language and Usao is the nearby river. The children will create their very own Masai collars inspired by the crafts of these amazing artsists.

Creating art, Preserving rights, Sustaing families with their hand crafted pieces….  This allows the women to support their village by bringing electricity, building chicken houses, schools and creating bandas by the Usao River that are rented to tourists. Learn about this and so much more while creating a magnificent piece of art and culture.

Open class for children ages 5-11. Best to RSVP for a reserved space. Class fee is $15.00 includes all supplies. Call and tell them you are reserving a space for the Ms. Mia, Masai Inspired art class at 10:30AM on February 23, 2013 at the Leroy Neiman Arts Center in Harlem.

Hope to see your little Artist in class.
