July 6th marks three momentous occasions: Frida Kahlo’s birth, Julia de Burgos’ passing, and the unveiling of Yasmin Hernandez’s SOLDADERAS mural. Please join us as we gather to remember, celebrate and honor all three.
Festivities Include:
• Blessing of the mural by the Kalpulli Huehuetlahtolli Mexica Dancers
• The musical sounds of traditional Son Jarocho and Bomba y Plena music
• Poetic Procession to 105th and 5th Ave.(where Julia de Burgos’ died) followed by a candlelight vigil
• Performances and readings by Dylcia Pagan,J.F. Seary, La Bruja, Maria Aponte, Mia Roman Hernandez, Prisionera, Sery Colon, Son de Montón, and more!
