Goddess Showcase of the Month is …..

Aphrodite…. She is known as the Greek Goddess (Roman Venus) of love, desire, beauty, fertility, the sea, and vegetation.

February… A month that is pegged as the month of Lovers…. Romance… Chocolate and Flowers. Let us do just that and take February and honor ourselves with the sweet delights, sensuality, romance and the aroma of love…. Love yourself … Make love to yourself …. It’s possible…. Are you smiling yet?  You will be soon. Take that passion from deep inside and create something, write a short story or poem, draw a picture, play a tune, sing a song, join a contest, take a photograph use the new moon of February and New Year of 2011 to channel that creative beast that awaits inside… lays dormant…. an artist waiting for the right inspiration or moment to make its debut. I know it’s there, do you? Now GET TO CREATING…. And if you wish to share your results feel free to comment and post on the Arts By Mia website. I would love to see what you come up with.

“Unpacking Violence”: New York, New York ~January 25th, 2011 ~
  bob Bar and Gallery

Domestic violence is a tragedy that affects all segments of the U.S. population. The original show was cancelled last year in October and was censored by 1199 SEIU. As a militant women’s organization we did not remain silent! Our political objective is to educate our community that there are different forms of violence that women all over the world are facing. Through the IVOW to Fight Violence Against Women campaign and F.i.R.E help to educate our communities and encourage them to take action! Filipinas for Rights and Empowerment-Gabriela USA and community allied organizations, Nodutdol for Korean Community Development and Malcom X Grassroots Organization bring to you “Unpacking Violence” gallery exhibit. FiRE’s Unpacking Violence gallery exhibit was inspired by GABRIELA-USA’s comprehensive national educational campaign VOW (Voices of Women) versus VAW (Violence Against Women). The art show aims to expand the definition, awareness, and discourse of violence against women (VAW) in order to break the culture of silence around this issue and to combat its occurrence.
