STOP THE HATE AND UNITE

by Mia Roman in Art By Mia NewZ

WE CANNOT CONTINUE TO FEED RACISM AND VIOLENCE

THERE NEEDS TO BE AN AWAKENING, AN UNDERSTANDING, A NEW WAY OF THINKING, PROCESSING, APPRECIATING OTHERS, AND WORKING TOGETHER

I MAY GET SHIT FOR THIS BUT MY HEART IS IN A GOOD PLACE AND MY VOICE MATTERS

I don’t think that the police get up every day thinking about who will be the next brown victim to be shot, arrested, or profiled….

WE CANNOT KEEP FIGHTING AGAINST ONE ANOTHER LIKE SOME DAMB THIRD WORLD COUNTRY IN WAR!!

WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON? YEAH, WHAT IS GOING ON?

It is sad that these deaths and assaults have happened but I believe they stem from the lack of training, tools,  support, and education….

I think the police force needs better training, psychological evaluations, therapy, quarterly check ins, cultural awareness, social tools, human connection and interaction, community involvement etc.

THE POLICE SHOULD BRING PEOPLE FROM THE COMMUNITY INTO THE TRAINING ROOM AND SEE WHAT THE PEOPLE NEED, SAY, FEELK AS PART OF THE TRAINING PROGRAM….

The police are afraid of certain communities and people (color) because of the stigma and stereotype it carries.

THE PEOPLE also have to step up and make a change in their communities, families, lives…. this war is not about bad cops and dead brothers of color… it’s deeply rooted and the only way we can do that is by going in and digging… finding the root of the evil… digging into our communities and finding out what they need, educating all sides, uniting as one with trust.

Peaceful protests may be good, it shows unity but does it work? Has it worked over the years? It’s a great way to bring the situation to the light, some awareness, but does it change anything? We are still seperated, segregated, hating all cops because of a few. This is no different than people hating all blacks because someone in their family was shot by one, no different than others hating all Latinos because they were raped by one, or hating all whites because they say it’s skin color gives them a privilege pass…

If WE… myself included… continue to speak of people as a seperated group we will always be seperated…. we will never have unity and this saddens me.

How ridiculous does that sound?

I may get alot of shit for this, many may not agree with me, delete me, talk behind my back, and I REALLY DON’T GIVE A RATS ASS…  my days of angry radical protesting are over… My mission is to find a way to connect on a different level with all humanity in mind, in a loving way that incorporates healing, unity, education, and awareness…THIS CAN BE DONE.

When I worked on Longwood in the South Bronx I experienced alot of stuff, heard horrible stories and also took the time to speak with people and kids in the community. They really didn’t ask for much and had even less. I am a light skinned Puerto Rican girl from Brooklyn sitting in the middle of a drug and violence riddled park where children play, bullets fly, and drugs are exchanged. Feeling the energy and knowing there is a lack of proper leadership, love, trust, unity, training, education, and community. I wanted to help so I worked all that out with the future generation… the children caught in the middle, the witnesses to the violence. Every week we would sit together around a big table and talk about their day, school, bullies, community, what they saw, how they felt, what they needed or wanted, what their parents say… and we would work it out, many had advice for others and they were only aged 5-12 years old. They witnessed drug deals, murders within their own, domestic violence, alcholism, robbery and so much more… and where did they all live?  At the homeless shelter… yes, these children were all homeless living with either a parent, guardian or grandparent. They were happy but have desires, suggestions, plans, goals, dreams. Any one of those children can fall as a victim of the streets, jail or to violence. I pray for my babies every day. But I was able to witness the change and shift that love, attention, trust, art, and unity did and gave these children while I was there. I risked my life every day and night that I was there but I never walked with fear and always felt protected.

If you want to write your local politicians go ahead,

If you want to walk with signs go ahead,

If you want to protest go ahead

but remember the energy and intent that is put into it will be recieved and will vibrate to others.

A peaceful sit in with Community involvement is another way. Getting to know the needs and the people is another!!!

Leadership is a courageous job and we all have the skills, we may just lack a few tools. This is where we lend to one another, where i fall short you lift me, and where you fall short I lift you, and we RISE TOGETHER.

BE CREATIVE NOT ANGRY

AS IT IS WE MAY BE  ON THE ROAD TO LOSING THE TRUST FOR ONE ANOTHER

Our politics are a mess, the justice system is a mess, the economy is a mess, inflation is a mess, entire countries going into financial despair, poverty, hungry, deaths, destruction, evil take overs, etc…

It is said that history repeats itself, it is also said that if you don’t get this life right you will repeat it….

Let’s get together and stop repeating the bad historical stains and make new shit happen that people can positively grow from, let’s nurture, love, and hold space for those that are lost.

OUR CHILDREN AND THEIR CHILDREN WILL BE FEEDING FROM IT.

THIS IS FOOD FOR THOUGHT…

THINK ABOUT THE STEPS YOU TAKE TODAY.

I am no expert but I am extending myself from an authentic place because I LOVE THIS UNIVERSE and I AM HOPEFUL for CHANGE… I have experienced racism…

It was said that…

I am not a woman of color

I am not Latina enough

I am privileged because I am light skin

I can’t create certain art or teach it because I am not from that culture

Some Taino communities don’t accept me as a Taina

Some Native American communities don’t accept me

Some Black communities don’t embrace me or my work

AND I AM OK WITH THAT BECAUSE THOSE FROM THE HUMAN RACE LOVE ME JUST THE WAY I AM.

I AM proud of Nuestra Rasa, i salute and celebrate my heritage not to segregate or ostracize others because they are not. .. it is to educate the masses to learn about it, me, and my work.

LET’S UNITE AS ONE AND LEARN FROM ONE ANOTHER… SI SE PUEDE, IT CAN BE DONE!

#BLACKLIVESMATTER   #ALLLIVESMATTER    #HUMANITYMATTER

WITH MUCH RESPECT, UNDERSTANDING, SUPPORT, AND LOVE I AM NOT DISREGARDING THE BLACK LIVES MATTER MOVEMENT…  BLACK LIVES MATTER JUST AS MUCH AS ALL OTHER LIVES AND LET’S NOT FORGET THAT IS THE MESSAGE,… BUT WE HAVE GOTTEN TO A POINT WHERE THE VALUE OF LIFE IS NOT APPRECIATED OR RESPECTED JUST BECAUSE OF OUR DEMOGRAPHIC, RACE, GENDER OR COLOR OF OUR SKIN.

LET’S VALUE ALL LIFE AND UNITE.

IN PEACE, SISTERHOOD, LOVE, AND ELEVATION, MIA
